Terms
What to know before you begin.
These terms describe how Hand-Me-Down Town works today. They are written in plain language for families using the service. They are not a promise of insurance, inspection, or a particular dollar amount.
Accounts
You need an account to list, claim, and live in Town. You are responsible for the activity on your account and for the accuracy of what you post. Hand Me Down Town LLC operates the service.
Points and items
You use Points to claim items. Those Points are held until the exchange is complete, then passed to the family who listed the item. Points aren't cash or a bank balance, and they can't pay for shipping or platform fees. Families exchange the items for Points rather than buying them from each other.
Shipping and fees
The claiming family pays shipping for a mailed package and a platform fee. Local pickup has a platform fee and no label. The amount is calculated for that package and shown before payment. Rates can change. The total in checkout is the one that applies.
If you're sending, pack the item you listed and use the label from the Post Office. Mark it shipped once you've sent it. If you're receiving, confirm in the app when it arrives.
Listings
List gently used children's and family items you have the right to pass on. Set a condition the next family can trust, and say what is worn or missing. Do not list unsafe, recalled, or prohibited items. If our AI drafts a listing from your photos, you need to review and accept it before publishing.
Items aren't inspected before they're listed. The next family relies on your photos and description when deciding to claim them.
Local pickup
Pickup is available only when the listing family offers it. Coordinate with the instructions in the exchange. Meet in a way that feels safe. Your street address is not published as your Town address.
The Town
Homes, Town addresses, stories, quests, and characters are part of the product experience. They do not change the Points, shipping, or fee rules above. Town addresses are not mailing addresses.
When an exchange has a problem
You can file a problem report at Town Hall. A report can pause an exchange while it is reviewed. Filing a report does not create insurance coverage or a guaranteed refund.
Changes
The product can change as Hand-Me-Down Town grows, including Points values, shipping calculations, and what appears in Town. If you have questions, write to hello@handmedowntown.com.
